Canadian Showtime Chorus® is a competitive women’s singing group, specializing in 4-part a cappella singing in the barbershop style. Barbershop is “the blackbelt of a cappella singing” according to the producer of the Pitch Perfect Trilogy, and a cappella guru, Deke Sharon.
A chartered member of Sweet Adelines International (SAI), Canadian Showtime Chorus, ranks in the top 18 of more than 500 choruses worldwide and was the 2018 Region 16 Chorus Champion competing in New Orleans, Louisiana, in Fall 2019.
The Chorus was formed in 1982, “to pursue musical excellence in the art of barbershop or four-part harmony singing” and to share the joy of this music genre through public performances.
Our members are passionate about our competitive sport. Our New Director, Mr. Joe Connelly, is not only a Master Director, International coach and all-round nice guy, but he is one of an elite few of THE most decorated barbershoppers in the history of the sport! How’s that for passion? Joe, along with his accomplished in-house musical and visual teams, designs each weekly rehearsal to both teach and inspire individuals to higher levels of personal excellence in singing and performance. Our rehearsals are augmented by periodic sessions with internationally recognized coaches. This combination of training and coaching helps the Chorus achieve progressively higher skills with each competition and public performance.
With a toolbox of skills like this, it is easy to come to weekly rehearsals and be the best singer that we all know how to be. By continually working at what we already do very well, the International Stage will never be the same. We have been building an unbelievable a cappella team for years …… join us to keep the momentum growing, and come sing with us.
Each spring, we compete in the Lake Ontario Region 16 Competition in Syracuse NY. Region 16 is comprised of over 22 choruses and is “home” to approximately 950 members, from New York State and Ontario. Since 2002, Canadian Showtime has consistently qualified to compete on the International stage.
As the 2018 Regional Champions, we proudly represented Region 16 in New Orleans, LA in September 2019. We shared the stage with arguably THE most competitive field known in the Sweet Adelines world.
We did not disappoint! All of the blood, sweat and tears of weekly rehearsals, numerous weekend coaching sessions, early choreography practice and overall eagerness to be the best we can be, was left on the stage in New Orleans. Our intense learning and rehearsing schedules and performance experiences, combined with the awesome energy and skilled teachings from our one-year new Director Joe Connelly, culminated in the best performance we had to give in New Orleans. The judges awarded us a very respectful 18th place International finish.
Where do we go from here? Up, up, up, we only go up from here!
