Canadian Showtime Chorus® is a competitive singing group for women, specializing in a cappella four-part harmony. A charter member of Sweet Adelines International (SAI), this 85 member chorus ranks in the top 20 of more than 600 choruses worldwide.
The Chorus was formed in 1982 to pursue musical excellence in the art of a cappella four-part harmony and to share the joy of this music genre through public performances.
Our members are professionally trained in singing technique, choreography, costuming and the art of staging a performance. Master Director 700 Sandra Nason designs each weekly rehearsal to both teach and inspire individuals to higher levels of personal excellence in singing. Rehearsals are augmented by periodic sessions with internationally recognized coaches. This combination of training and coaching helps the Chorus achieve progressively higher skills with each competition and public performance.
Canadian Showtime Chorus continues to build our music level across all four judged categories of sound, showmanship, music and expression under the careful hands of our Master 700 Director Sandie Nason.
It is easy to come to rehearsal and be the best singer that we all know how to be. By continually working at what we already do very well, the International Stage will never be the same. We have been building an unbelievable a cappella team for years …… join us to keep the momentum growing, and come sing with us.
Each spring, we compete in the Lake Ontario Region 16 Competition in Syracuse NY. Region 16 is the largest region in Sweet Adelines, comprising over 30 choruses from New York State and Ontario. Canadian Showtime has now qualified nine times to compete on the International stage SAI. Vegas 2015 was a great experience with a solid musical foundation presented on the stage and we know just what we have to do for Vegas in 2017. We are working to bring our best singing performance yet to the International Stage at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas in October 2017. Canadian Showtime will walk the stage, as many Canadian musical greats have before, and are planning a high level performance that will make our country very proud.
The Chorus gives a number of public performances every year. We are known for our dynamic performances of a wide range of music including Contemporary, Gospel, Broadway, Celtic and Jazz. But it's not just about the music – it's theatre as well.
The Chorus presents a major show every second year at Centrepointe Theatre. SAVE THE DATE as our next show is scheduled for February 10, 2018. For all of our public shows, the performance is full of song, story, dance, great costumes and loads of fun. Onstage we invite quartets, folk singers, Canadian fiddle champions, jazz ensembles, and solo pianists to perform with us. Some of our esteemed audiences and venues to date include:
- The Embassy of the Royal Kingdom of the Netherlands
- RCMP Sunset Ceremony
- Kinsmen Club of Ottawa
- Catholic Diocese of Ottawa
- Great Hall of the National Gallery
- The National Arts Centre
