VLQ Experience

Our wonderful Region provides us with the opportunity of competing in VLQs at Fall Music School.  As luck would have it, all members of Sound Jam (combined Sound Decision and PBnJ quartets, from Canadian Showtime Chorus) registered for Music School and decided to ‘compete’.  Ahem!  Then – the fun began.

1.  Choose the music.  2. Dream up the theme.  3. Where to practice?  4. Time to practice – never 7 there all at once!  5. Cheap Costume?  shirts, flares, Dollarama sparkles, wigs, chest hair???  6.  Script.  7. Staging.  Hundreds of WhatsApp notes later, and one dress rehearsal, we were kinda ready!  ELVIS LIVES!  Then we looked at the rules, yikes, Vowels, Phrase endings, Stagecraft, Part balance.  This is serious!

Kidding aside, this was one heck of a fun experience to plan and perform in a VLQ, hanging out together, singing, laughing, improvising (did we blow the wrong pitch on purpose?) and giving the audience a laugh too.

Thank you, Hannah and all Regional Staff who assisted all the VLQs; thank you Judging Panel who scored us: tip of the hat to the other great competing VLQs.
